Nearly 100 young participants spent a week at the 4th Annual First Responder Junior Camp in Corpus Christi, where they practiced drills in vehicle extrication and hazardous materials response (including ladder climbs and first aid training) to spark interest in emergency careers.
Nueces County Jail received first prize for its Second Chance Money Skills program, which teaches financial literacy to female inmates (designed by a Texas A&M Corpus Christi PhD student). Officials say the program helps inmates gain skills for life after release.
