COMMUNITY NEWS

  • Carly Smith has been promoted to Chief Meteorologist at KIII 3NEWS & she will lead the Weather Impact Team as it guides weather coverage across the Coastal Bend.  KIII-TV
  • Corpus Christi Animal Care Services introduced Vixen, a 3-year-old brown Rhodesian Ridgeback—Redbone Coonhound mix who is spayed and weighs about 58 lbs, as KRIS 6's Pet of the Week. Community members can visit the shelter Monday through Saturday from 12:00 p.m. to 5:30 p.m. to meet her.  Action 10 News
  • The annual Nueces County Junior Livestock Show is underway in Robstown with hundreds of young competitors — it began on Saturday with a horse show and will run through Sunday, Jan. 18. The event supports youth leadership in agriculture and homemaking, evolving since 1936.  Action 10 News
  • The City will host its first Litter Critter cleanup of 2026 on Padre Island Saturday, Jan. 11, from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. Traffic control will be in place along Windward Drive near Whitecap Boulevard, and residents should drop off allowed bulky items (cardboard recycling is not available).  Action 10 News

  • SpaceX is preparing to launch flight 12 of its Starship Version 3 from Starbase, located near the U.S.+Mexico border, in the coming weeks. The test flight could support NASA's Artemis lunar landing missions and mark an early 2026 milestone for the world's largest, most powerful launch vehicle.  Caller Times

CRIME NEWS

  • A Woodsboro family reported that a delivery driver allegedly took one of their Chihuahua puppies during a potty break on Dec. 17 from their property, and authorities along with Amazon investigated the incident while the family hoped for its return.  KRIS 6 News

EDUCATION NEWS

  • Several Nueces County school districts extend winter break next week so students can join the Junior Livestock Show from Jan. 10 to Jan. 17 in Robstown — a long-standing rural tradition featuring a parade, dog show, queen contest and more.  Caller Times

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • Corpus Christi is studying plans to drill new groundwater wells along the Nueces River that may add up to 28 million gallons of water & could require mobile desalination to boost supply. City officials will review environmental factors before moving ahead.  KIII-TV
