  • The Junior Livestock Show is underway in Corpus Christi — 3NEWS is live capturing nearly 90 years of tradition as young exhibitors display their livestock and skills.  KIII-TV
  • The Rancho Vista playground, closed since May 2025 for safety reasons, is nearly complete and will reopen by the end of January with further upgrades scheduled for 2029.  KRIS 6 News
  • Volunteers cleared thousands of wreaths from gravesites today in Coastal Bend to honor fallen veterans who had no family, showing the community's commitment to never forget their sacrifice.  KIII-TV

ECONOMY NEWS

  • Winter Texans are filling RV parks, restaurants and shops in Rockport-Fulton (boosting local businesses) this offseason.  KIII-TV
  • Workforce Solutions Coastal Bend and G&H Towing are hosting the 3rd Annual Maritime Career Expo & Job Fair on Jan. 21 at Solomon P. Ortiz International Center, 402 Harbor Drive with free admission. The event offers separate sessions for students and the general public to meet over 35 maritime employers.  KRIS 6 News

EDUCATION NEWS

  • Students at Gloria Hicks Elementary received five free books through the 'If You Give a Child a Book' initiative, a program by KRIS 6 News (in partnership with Scripps Howard Fund) that builds home libraries and supports literacy.  KRIS 6 News
  • Tuloso-Midway Independent School District seeks volunteers to serve as actors, timekeepers, and runners at its Law Enforcement Competition at Tuloso Midway High School on Saturday, January 17 at 8:30 a.m. Volunteer hours count toward student community service credits — supporting local law enforcement training.  KRIS 6 News

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • Fire Station 10 on the Westside is set for a full rebuild — featuring a larger apparatus bay and modernized spaces — and will be finished by January 2027 at Greenwood and Horne next to the International Westside Pony League.  KRIS 6 News
  • City leaders are working to approve final permits for the Evangeline Project by Feb. 6 & the project is set to supply up to 40 million gallons of water daily amid drought concerns.  KIII-TV
  • Burleson Street reopened as a two-way road today in North Beach, part of the Harbor Bridge Project, while the new US 181 frontage road (E Causeway Boulevard) now offers better access from Bridgeport to Beach Avenue.  KRIS 6 News

HEALTH NEWS

  • The Coastal Bend Wellness Foundation temporarily closed three federally funded programs for mental health, substance use and homelessness on Jan. 13, affecting 185 clients and 12 staff. It received word on Jan. 15 that the funding has been restored — easing the service disruption.  Caller Times

SPORTS NEWS

  • Calallen Wildcats return a loaded team (led by pitchers Collier Carroll and Drayton Mitchell) aiming to win back-to-back state crowns. They will begin their season at the McAllen Tournament before hosting their own from Feb. 25 to 28.  KIII-TV
