  • City leaders and community members met today to discuss solutions after recent fires near vacant properties in Flour Bluff. The meeting focused on addressing funding gaps and upgrading the 3-1-1 system, with follow-up sessions planned in the coming weeks.  KRIS 6 News
  • Officials at the former YMCA rebranded as Corpus Christi Community Center in early January (the new name honors its long legacy of service) and plan to expand local community programs.  KIII-TV

ECONOMY NEWS

  • A new study from Luxury Link shows that while U.S. family vacation costs rose 14.5% since 2019, Corpus Christi saw only a 7% increase, making it one of the most affordable destinations among 100 cities. Researchers compared airfare, lodging, meals, and rental car expenses for a four-night trip.  KRIS 6 News
  • Prices in Corpus Christi restaurants have increased 21% since 2019, according to travel business Luxury Link. A local diner is adjusting its menu to offer more affordable options for customers.  KIII-TV

EDUCATION NEWS

  • Port Aransas ISD has partnered with ZeroEyes to integrate AI gun detection into school cameras as the district works to improve safety; the technology will be operational in about three months and will alert officials and law enforcement when a weapon is detected.  KRIS 6 News

  • Five volunteer firefighters from Nueces County ESD 4 took leave on Monday after a vote of no confidence in most board members (Geoff Antwood, Paul Swetish, Otis Grupe) over long-standing leadership issues unearthed in an audit; Fire Chief Michael Clack said he will rely on neighboring teams for support.  KRIS 6 News
  • Motorists face a closed northbound lane on Yorktown Boulevard near Sun Valley Drive while crews replace a bridge railing protection device from Jan. 19 through Monday, Jan. 26 & officials advise following detour signs for safe navigation.  KRIS 6 News

HEALTH NEWS

  • Flint Hills Resources donated $100,000 to help expand the surgical center at Driscoll Children's Hospital. The donation will support the Fiesta de los Niños on Feb. 6 at the Hilliard Law Center, bringing care closer to South Texas children.  KRIS 6 News

SPORTS NEWS

  • Flour Bluff girls and boys beat Veterans Memorial Tuesday in the Yorktown Showdown; the girls built a strong third quarter to win 59-39 while the boys held off a late rally for a 51-49 finish. Their wins moved the teams to district records of 10-1 and 8-1 respectively.  KIII-TV
