  • Eligible taxpayers earning up to $67,000 can get free tax return preparation at five Corpus Christi locations through United Way’s VITA program — service hours vary by site with sessions starting Jan. 26 and extending into April.  KRIS 6 News

  • When temperatures drop, rancher Scott Frazier of Thunder Cattle Company in Chapman Ranch takes extra measures to keep cattle warm by adding extra feed and setting up windbreaks. He said that increasing the corn and cotton mix helps the animals stay healthy during cold snaps.  KRIS 6 News

  • The Caller-Times announced its January Students of the Month today for high school achievers in Corpus Christi, West Oso and Flour Bluff schools.   • TxDOT crews are pre-treating roads in 10 counties to prevent ice from freezing rain, applying brine on bridges, causeways, and elevated structures.   • Corpus Christi officials are considering a third groundwater well field in Nueces County to help meet water demand as severe drought and low levels at Lake Texana threaten supplies.
