  • Padre Island Business Association is expanding Barefoot Mardi Gras into a month-long celebration in February featuring 11 Mardi Gras-themed events to boost local business and benefit charities along the island. The festivities include Cajun cooking classes and karaoke, with a parade set for Feb. 28 (savings passes offer discounts).  KRIS 6 News

CULTURE NEWS

  • Dr. Clotilde P. Garcia Library launched its Black History Month Monday Morning Movie series Monday with a screening of The Great Debaters at 11 a.m. at 5930 Brockhampton (popcorn was free), and it will showcase Hidden Figures on Feb. 16 and 42 on Feb. 23.  KRIS 6 News
  • Neighbors gathered in Los Encinos on Monday, Feb. 2 to celebrate Our Lady of San Juan de los Lagos with a procession, mass, and spiritual renewal ceremony marking 16 years of tradition.  KRIS 6 News
  • Country star Ella Langley will headline at Hilliard Center Arena on Friday, August 14 with special guests Kaitlin Butts and Gabriella Rose joining her. Presale starts Thursday at 12 p.m. using code DANDELION, while general tickets go on sale Feb. 6 at 10 a.m.  KRIS 6 News
  • Texas A&M University–Corpus Christi kicked off Black History Month with ‘Voices from the Trail’ & honored the legacy of Black cowboys on campus. The event highlighted local heritage and invited community engagement.  KIII-TV

EDUCATION NEWS

  • Taft ISD opened brand-new fully turf baseball and softball fields on Friday, Jan. 30 with new dugouts, bleachers, and an LED scoreboard — baseball will start on Feb. 17 and softball will use the field on Feb. 12 for a tournament.  Action 10 News
  • Corpus Christi ISD will shift high school boundaries next school year after closing seven schools. Moody High is set to gain nearly 200 students while Miller High may lose 285 and Ray High will receive rezoned students from Browne Middle, with King and Veterans Memorial remaining unchanged.  Caller Times
  • Kingsville ISD is set to vote today on an elementary realignment plan that consolidates three campuses into two—combining pre-kindergarten through second grades at Kleberg and third through fifth at Harvey—to address low ratings, declining enrollment and a $4.2 million deficit, though some educators worry about increased class sizes.  KRIS 6 News
  • A new voucher program for the 2026–2027 school year opens this week with limited spots statewide — including the Coastal Bend area.  KIII-TV
