COMMUNITY NEWS

  • A U.S. Army Bell Huey helicopter was donated to Sherrill Veterans Memorial Park after a dedication ceremony held yesterday, Feb. 6, to honor U.S. service members — the display now serves as a new monument of military remembrance in the park.  Caller Times
  • City officials dedicated a new helicopter monument on Feb. 5 at Sherrill Veterans Memorial Park where a U.S. Army Bell Huey sits atop a 15-foot steel pedestal along North Shoreline Boulevard + the project was partly funded by a $715,000 bond approved by voters in 2024.  Caller Times

ACCIDENTS NEWS

  • On Feb. 1, the owners of Kiko's Restaurant lost their RV home to a fire in Flour Bluff (the event occurred at 1 a.m. and left both the RV and a nearby vehicle totaled) while staff and customers provided vital support; the cause remains unknown.  KRIS 6 News

BUSINESS NEWS

  • Downtown Corpus Christi’s Hurricane Alley Waterpark announced on Friday that it will close after 15 years, ending a local summer hotspot for families.  KIII-TV

CULTURE NEWS

  • South Texas Trail Riders began their 67th annual journey toward the San Antonio Stock Show and Rodeo this morning with breakfast at Tynan Campgrounds before stopping for lunch in Sinton. The ride continues next week with a grand entrance planned at the rodeo.  KRIS 6 News

ENVIRONMENT NEWS

  • Corpus Christi golf courses remain playable during the drought by using reclaimed water to irrigate greens — even though grass appears brown. Course managers say the system conserves freshwater and expect the turf to recover with several warmer nights.  KRIS 6 News

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • Corpus Christi is reviewing a new mobility plan for Padre and Mustang Islands that would lower the Park Road 22 limit to 45 mph and add golf cart and bike lanes. City Council will have its first reading on Tuesday, with business owners expecting improved travel options.  KRIS 6 News
  • Protests against the Evangeline groundwater project have advanced to a preliminary hearing, putting the city’s planned November water production at risk as drought worsens and Lake Texana falls below 60% — officials are exploring additional supply projects to ease potential curtailments.  KRIS 6 News

  • Driscoll Children’s Hospital celebrated its 34th Fiesta de los Niños, uniting hundreds of supporters to raise funds for expanded pediatric care in Corpus Christi. The event underscored the hospital’s long-standing role in improving children’s health in our community.  KIII-TV
