  • Creatures Coffee & Tea Co. held a soft opening for its first brick-and-mortar store on Feb. 5 at the former Disc Go Round (5734 McArdle Road) near PetSmart and ArtWalk. Customers waited 30 to 40 minutes, and official hours are yet to be announced.  Caller Times
  • On Feb. 6, Hurricane Alley and Bleu Frog Mercantile in Corpus Christi announced their closures; Hurricane Alley cited drought and water supply concerns while Bleu Frog Mercantile is offering 60% off items (a strategic shift to reassess community needs).  Caller Times

  • Families celebrate the Lunar New Year at the Texas State Museum of Asian Cultures & Education Center as part of its annual festivities (this year spotlighting the horse zodiac sign) and featuring local cultural traditions.  KIII-TV

EDUCATION NEWS

  • Flour Bluff ISD acknowledged a student-led walkout at its high school and said off-instruction activities on campus are not permitted. The district will enforce state guidelines to keep the learning environment safe — emphasizing education as its top priority.  KIII-TV

ENVIRONMENT NEWS

  • Yesterday, Feb. 7, ARK volunteers released 16 rehabilitated sea turtles (including Antoine, a loggerhead) into Gulf waters at Marker 35 on Mustang Island. The event raised local awareness about marine conservation and highlighted the challenges the turtles endured.  KRIS 6 News

SPORTS NEWS

  • On Feb. 6, the Texas High School Coaches Association honored several Coastal Bend coaches with Region 7 awards. Sinton’s Michael Troutman (football) and assistant coach Candelario Rivera, London’s Tracy Eldridge and Flour Bluff’s head coach Steve Bonds with assistant coach Jacque Bonds were recognized for leadership in football and tennis.  Caller Times
