  • Two Corpus Christi firefighters who helped save a CCPD officer shot in January were honored at City Hall for their bravery + quick response.  KIII-TV
  • Buc Days will hold a new children's parade and 5K run in Portland on Saturday, Apr. 18 while the main carnival remains in Corpus Christi from Apr. 30 to May 10. Organizers say the events aim to support local education with over $100,000 in scholarships.  KRIS 6 News
  • Coastal Bend churches host traditional Lenten fish fries starting today to raise funds for parish activities. Church kitchens in Corpus Christi, Robstown, Mathis and other towns offer fried fish plates with classic sides (coleslaw, corn, and green beans) using dine-in and drive-thru options through Feb. 20.  KRIS 6 News
  • The Bob Hall Pier will open in about a week at Padre Island free for 90 days — after that, nominal fees such as $3 for walking and $4 for fishing will return at decade-old rates to support maintenance, city officials said.  Action 10 News

EDUCATION NEWS

  • Kingsville ISD is under warning today by the TEA for its F-rating, while Premont ISD proved that a turnaround is possible under similar challenges. Local officials say that increased community involvement could help the district improve.  KRIS 6 News

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • Corpus Christi City Council approved a nearly $8.7 million contract to build the Northside Aquatics Center in Hillcrest to meet federal mitigation requirements. Construction is slated to finish by March and addresses water loss concerns amid drought conditions.  KRIS 6 News
  • PAAC (People Assisting Animal Control) was awarded $500,000 from Texas to expand spay and neuter services across nine counties as part of a $13 million state pilot program. The funding is expected to improve access to care in underserved areas across the Coastal Bend.  KRIS 6 News
