  • The former YMCA has reopened as the Corpus Christi Community Center with new local programs. It held a ribbon-cutting ceremony on Friday, Feb. 20 at 5 p.m. at 417 Upper Broadway with live music, door prizes and refreshments donated by LNF Distributors.  KRIS 6 News
  • Corpus Christi honors the 81st anniversary of the Battle of Iwo Jima with a commemorative ceremony at Sherrill Veterans Memorial Park (222 South Shoreline Boulevard) today at 10 a.m. The event will feature a parade of colors and tributes from dignitaries.  KRIS 6 News
  • The new Bob Hall Pier on Padre Island is built with 200 pop-off panels — designed to detach during storm surges so that its concrete and steel foundation remains intact during hurricanes. It features over 3,000 linear feet of ADA-compliant handrails and is designed for easy repair after extreme weather.  KRIS 6 News

  • Corpus Christi food trucks including Creatures Coffee and Streat Corner Kitchen are transitioning into brick-and-mortar stores with strong local support - owners say the move boosts growth while keeping community roots alive.  Action 10 News

  • The Golden Mic Accelerator program is accepting applications to nurture local musical talent along the Coastal Bend, with interested artists needing to apply by next month (applications remain open).  KIII-TV

  • West Oso ISD hosted a Black History Month event today at the West Oso Junior High School auditorium where pre-K to 12 students enjoyed music, dance and a guest appearance by NBA alumnus Adrian Caldwell that celebrated African American legacy and the district's commitment to equity.  KRIS 6 News

ENVIRONMENT NEWS

  • Dry fuels and 20 mph wind gusts have raised brush fire risk in Coastal Bend today, while Nueces County's burn ban remains in effect (with fines up to $500).  KIII-TV
  • Calallen resident Suzanne Gallagher switched to bottled water after River Acres Water Supply (which gets water from NCWCID #3) reported an arsenic violation. RAWS officials said they notified customers per TCEQ guidelines (via letters and website postings) but Gallagher fears many locals remain unaware.  KRIS 6 News

  • The Nueces River Authority approved $1M for pipeline design for the Harbor Island desal project, with water delivery targeted for December 2029.  KIII-TV
