COMMUNITY NEWS

  • Organizers announced the 25th Annual Cesar Chavez March will be held Saturday, March 28 at noon at Waters Edge Park along Shoreline Boulevard. The event, themed '¡Sí Se Puede!', will honor Cesar Chavez and feature grand marshals including Dolores Huerta, Mayor Paulette Guajardo, Pepe Serna, and Bobby Pulido.  KRIS 6 News
  • Today marks four years since Russia invaded Ukraine, and Coastal Bend resident Elena Sexton recalls experiencing hardship in Ukraine when water froze inside homes before moving to Corpus Christi for safety — she still worries about her family and rising work permit costs.  KRIS 6 News

ENVIRONMENT NEWS

  • Fire crews contained a wildfire that broke out Monday near State Highway 188 in Rockport — residents north and west of the fire had been evacuated — while two fire trucks were damaged and seven structures were spared.  Action 10 News
  • Residents of Lake Corpus Christi are worried as water levels fall to 9.5% amid a severe drought, with officials warning that a Level One emergency may be declared soon. City officials have approved emergency projects—a new desalination plant and groundwater wells—to boost water supplies if conditions do not improve.  Action 10 News
  • Calallen resident Suzanne Gallagher switched to bottled water for drinking, cooking and pet care after RAWS reported an arsenic violation at River Acres Water Supply — which relies on NCWCID #3 for its water supply. RAWS officials said they are meeting TCEQ standards but customers remain concerned.  Action 10 News

  • Nueces County Commissioner Brent Chesney said Bob Hall Pier reopens today after rebuilding, with a ribbon cutting scheduled for 11 a.m.—Lexis Greene will cover the event at the Coast.  KIII-TV
  • Texas Land Commissioner Dawn Buckingham announced $84.6 million in coastal improvement funding for 14 counties through the Coastal Management Program and the Coastal Erosion Planning and Response Act; check presentations were held in Corpus Christi and Brownsville with additional details on county awards coming soon.  KRIS 6 News
  • A Texas Attorney General ruling lets Corpus Christi keep smart meter water use data from car wash chains confidential as these facilities expand amid a historic drought. Quick Quack says it reuses up to 99% water per car but did not reveal daily counts.  Action 10 News

  • Sly, a black-and-white Australian Cattle Dog and Alaskan Husky mix, is available for adoption at Corpus Christi Animal Care. He loves playing in water and snacking on treats, and visitors can see him Monday through Saturday from 12:00 p.m. to 5:30 p.m.  Action 10 News
