COMMUNITY NEWS

  • Corpus Christi will begin renovation of three fields at Greenwood Sports Complex on the Westside next month to serve Westside Pony Baseball, Universal Little League and Sparkling City Youth Softball as part of the $7M Bond 2022 project (adding new lighting, irrigation, bleachers and dugouts) aimed at boosting local sports.  KRIS 6 News
  • On Feb. 24, the rebuilt Bob Hall Pier on North Padre Island opened and offered free access for 90 days. The 1,253-ft structure is built for a 50-year lifespan — officials said construction continues on the restaurant and concession area.  Caller Times

CULTURE NEWS

  • Foreigner will rock Selena Auditorium at Hilliard Center on Wednesday, Oct. 14 at 8:00 p.m. for their 50th anniversary tour. Ticket presale (using password FIFTY) runs today from 10:00 a.m. to 10:00 p.m., with general sales starting Friday, Feb. 27 at $73.  Action 10 News
  • Padre Island’s Kim Erwin has collected 62 wigs and over 150 Mardi Gras costumes over 25 years and she will display her prized collection at a Barefoot Mardi Gras celebration this weekend (a festive nod to local tradition).  KRIS 6 News
  • Cassidy’s Irish Pub will bring back the St. Paddy’s Festival on March 14 on the former Bayfront Inn lot downtown. The free event will host local musicians, Irish marching bands, Celtic dancers, food trucks offering Irish dishes, and over 50 vendors, marking a stronger return after last year's cancellation.  The Bend Magazine
  • Local chef James Kitchen of Big Kitchen Foods honors his family’s legacy with Southern dishes during Black History Month by blending passed-down recipes — a tribute to community culture. ENVIRONMENT NEWS

  • Corpus Christi secured a $6.5M state grant to add up to 85,000 cubic yards of sand along 3,500 linear feet of North Beach from Surfside Park to the USS Lexington. A Cooperative Agreement will finalize in 30 days + City Council review is set for April-May.  Action 10 News
  • TAMU-CC researchers are using a dry pond in Flour Bluff to send sound waves underground — mapping layers to track water flow that may affect wetlands and wildlife. Students from Flour Bluff ISD are joining the effort as testing continues to protect local habitats.  KRIS 6 News

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • Corpus Christi has allocated over $400 million to groundwater projects — including a brackish desalination plant, new rights at Li Ranch, and the Evangeline well field — to help avert water shortages as reservoirs fall to critical levels. City Council approved the funding on Feb. 24.  Caller Times

SPORTS NEWS

  • Corpus Christi will upgrade three fields at Greenwood Sports Complex on the Westside using a $7M Bond 2022 project after four years of planning. Construction begins next month to serve youth baseball and softball leagues — a new chapter for community sports.  Action 10 News
