  • 7 Brew opened its new shop in Calallen Monday at 13933 Northwest Blvd to provide residents and commuters a local spot for specialty coffee. The grand opening Swag Day on Saturday, March 7 will offer a free shirt and keychain with a large drink purchase.  KIII-TV
  • Barefoot Mardi Gras on Padre Island broke records today with over 90 floats and 15,000 to 20,000 attendees celebrating along the coast—showing a family-friendly spirit that capped a busy local week including the opening of Bob Hall Pier.  Action 10 News
  • Nearly one year after the Welder Fire swept through Sinton, residents are rebuilding their homes and renewing community ties. Barbara Funke, a former teacher at Welder Elementary who lost personal mementos, says neighbors united to help each other + rebuild what was lost.  KIII-TV
  • The Goodwill South Texas 5K & 2 Mile Walk invites families to join a community run and 2-mile walk planned for later this year in Corpus Christi. The event offers local residents a chance to enjoy a healthy, inclusive activity.  KIII-TV

CRIME NEWS

  • A man was fined after video footage showed him drilling holes into the new Bob Hall Pier—local anglers and visitors reported multiple holes and expressed shock over the act.  KRIS 6 News

CULTURE NEWS

  • The YWCA is celebrating local women with the 2026 Y Women in Career Awards & will announce honorees soon to recognize their professional achievements in Corpus Christi.  KIII-TV

EDUCATION NEWS

  • Texas law required school boards to vote on a dedicated prayer period, but most Corpus Christi area schools (including Corpus Christi ISD) voted to keep current religious practices due to logistical challenges. Students continue to pray individually or form clubs as usual.  Caller Times

ENVIRONMENT NEWS

  • Drivers in Corpus Christi may use the free AutoCheck program by Texas A&M University Corpus Christi, which checks tailpipe emissions, tire pressure, and system codes to boost air quality and safety. Qualifying repairs can get up to $600 at events available online and in Nueces County.  Action 10 News

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • Industrial companies in Corpus Christi can pay a fee to be exempt from drought surcharges—city officials explain the option helps manage extra costs during water shortages.  Caller Times
  • City Manager Peter Zanoni warned the mayor and council that Lake Corpus Christi is at 10.1% capacity and may drop below 10% this week as delays on the Western Well Field project risk new water sources — he is meeting with officials twice this month to chart emergency plans for May.  KRIS 6 News
  • Nueces County Medical Examiner's Office opened a new facility at 2610 Hospital Blvd. today to replace the older space in use since 1995. The upgraded facility features updated technology and more room to speed up case processing for families in the community.  KRIS 6 News

  • The Bishop Badgers face Hitchcock in the 3A-DI State Semifinal Tuesday night at Tidehaven High School, and the team hopes to secure its first state title. Coach Sherry Luna said a December loss spurred the renewed effort to win.  KIII-TV
