  • Isabella Carrasco launched her Color the Community project and is painting a 96-foot-long, five-part mural on the Gold N' Things wall on Ayers Street during spring break—she uses community donations to fund her work. The business will host a community gathering when the mural is finished to celebrate the new art.  KIII-TV
  • Corpus Christi police and Texas Rangers arrested Jerrick Lusk on burglary charges after fire trucks were stolen from wildfire crews in Sinton last week, and local detectives are seeking an arson suspect who set two excavators on fire on Brownlee. Affordable housing from shipping containers will soon be built in Flour Bluff, the U.S. Attorney’s office will remain at One Shoreline Plaza, REAL Inc. broke ground on a new $30 million regional headquarters in Alice, and H-E-B launched its 12th Quest for the Texas Best offering up to $100,000 in cash prizes—expected to boost local business and innovation.  KRIS 6 News

CRIME NEWS

  • Cheri Ann Palmer, a Houston woman, pleaded guilty on Sept. 26, 2024, to smuggling illegal drugs between Houston and Rockport and using a gun, and she was sentenced to 25 years—20 for drug charges and 5 for the gun—with a 3-year supervised release to follow.  KRIS 6 News

ENVIRONMENT NEWS

  • TCEQ commissioners approved a discharge permit for Corpus Christi's proposed Inner Harbor seawater desalination plant that will provide up to 30 million gallons of treated water a day at its start and up to 51.5 million gallons when complete—this facility is expected to be the largest of its kind. The $757 million project will be financed by a low-interest loan from the Texas Water Development Board to help ease water shortages amid ongoing drought concerns.  Caller Times
  • Corpus Christi officials announced that the TCEQ approved a permit for the Inner Harbor desalination plant that will produce 36 million gallons of water per day to help meet growing water needs (construction will begin in 2026 and finish by 2028). Some local groups and residents worry about the plant’s impact on the Bay as the city awaits a final permit from the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers.  KRIS 6 News

  • Dr. Vijay, a board-certified plastic surgeon at Corpus Plastic Surgery and MedSpa, says patients should watch for warning signs like doctors without enough training and surgery done in unlicensed places—this can risk health and hurt results.
