  • Farrah—designated KRIS 6 Pet of the Week at Corpus Christi Animal Care Services—is a friendly, energetic black Vizsla and Pointer mix that is about 1 year and 1 month old, weighs 35.4 lbs, and has a heartworm status below detectable limits. Residents may visit the shelter Monday through Saturday from 1:00 p.m. to 5:30 p.m. to meet her.  KRIS 6 News
  • Pitmaster Pete Trevino and his volunteers held a barbecue benefit on March 7 in Sinton—raising more than $7,000 to help families affected by the wildfires that began on March 3. They identified nine families in need—each receiving nearly $800 to cover essential costs.  KRIS 6 News

ACCIDENTS NEWS

  • A 52-year-old man from Houston died after a golf cart accident in Port Aransas on March 15th when his cart hit a palm tree and he was ejected—neighbors found his body around 7:30 a.m. in a private marina community.  KRIS 6 News

  • South Texas Botanical Gardens reported that spring break attendance dropped last week due to staggered school breaks even though the weather was warmer than in past years, and the director said visitor numbers will likely rebound later in the week—when schools in other areas start their break. This change is expected to help local sales grow as more spring breakers visit the garden.  KRIS 6 News

CRIME NEWS

  • Former detention officer Hector Lopez was arrested last week for allegedly stealing $150 from an inmate at the Corpus Christi City Detention Center — surveillance footage reportedly shows him hiding the cash during the intake process.  KRIS 6 News

CULTURE NEWS

  • Indigenous activist Larry Running Turtle Salazar—who fought for proper treatment of Native American burial grounds discovered during road work in Corpus Christi—died early Sunday at age 68.  Caller Times

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • Traffic on Nueces Bay Boulevard will be partially closed as the stretch between John—West Broadway is set to shut down—causing delays for local commuters. Officials advise drivers to use alternate routes during the closure.  KIII-TV
  • The Parks and Recreation department is hosting a summer hiring fair to fill over 100 positions in Corpus Christi. Lifeguard roles are available with a chance to start a firefighting career.  KIII-TV
  • Today, Corpus Christi City Council will vote on an ordinance to set all speed limits on Ennis Joslin Road to 35 mph and Weber Road to 40 mph after a TxDOT study— the council will also vote on changes to the city's Drought Contingency Plan that will take effect March 19 if approved.  KRIS 6 News
