COMMUNITY NEWS

  • Workforce Solutions Coastal Bend hosted a job fair today at Coastal Bend Food Bank in Corpus Christi to connect job seekers with local employers (the event focused on supporting people with disabilities) and welcomed nearly 200 community members.  KRIS 6 News
  • Dozens gathered Wednesday night on Southside to hold a candlelight vigil in honor of Veterans Memorial coach Leyton Hernandez, who died last Friday in a Temple traffic accident.  KRIS 6 News
  • Today the Children's Advocacy Center of the Coastal Bend held a ribbon cutting in Portland to officially open its new facility alongside its Kingsville center.  KIII-TV
  • Naval Air Station Kingsville will host the Wings Over South Texas Air Show on April 18 and 19 in Kingsville. The event features the Blue Angels (free admission and parking benefit families) and promises fun aerial displays.  KRIS 6 News

EDUCATION NEWS

  • Marissa Perez, a Ray Miller High School senior, became a licensed drone pilot after an unexpected robotics class led her to excel (finishing the course in three months) and she now hopes to inspire more girls in a field where less than 5% of pilots are women.  KRIS 6 News

ENVIRONMENT NEWS

  • Corpus Christi Water officials presented six models on Tuesday night that show five scenarios would trigger a Level 1 emergency with impacts starting as early as May or later in October—and the only scenario that avoids an emergency relies on timely projects and sufficient rain, which is unlikely.  Action 10 News

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • Corpus Christi City Council unanimously approved a motion to partner with CPS Energy to explore a seawater desalination project at the Barney Davis Power Plant in Flour Bluff. City staff will now evaluate options for the project (with a potential cost of $600 million).  Action 10 News

LIFESTYLE NEWS

  • Reporter John Oliva visited three Corpus Christi spots and highlighted Lei Kitchen as a hidden gem for generous Chinese dishes. He dined there on March 10 at a small plaza on Saratoga Blvd near Weber Road — a festive, self-seating spot known for ample portions.  Caller Times
  • The local restaurant Butter Churn in Aransas Pass earned the 18th spot on a national buffet ranking and offers all-you-can-eat Southern cuisine for $21.50 per adult. Reviewers praised its clean atmosphere and friendly staff, reflecting a strong rebound in the buffet market.  Action 10 News
