- ➤ 45-year-old Corpus Christi resident George Gomez, also known as Quick and a member of the Texas Syndicate, was sentenced to 25 years in federal prison for coordinating methamphetamine deals in prison while serving a 17-year state sentence—his federal term will start after he completes his current sentence. - ➤ Goodwill Industries is offering free GED classes to help Corpus Christi residents earn their certificate. Interested participants should contact Goodwill Industries for registration details — class schedules will be available soon. KIII-TV
GOVERNMENT NEWS
- ➤ The SBA announced low-interest federal disaster loans to Texas businesses, nonprofits and residents for physical and economic losses from the Welder Complex Fire that took place March 4th through 9th in counties including Aransas, Bee, Jim Wells, Live Oak, Nueces, Refugio and San Patricio. Applicants may borrow up to $2 million for business repairs or up to $500,000 for primary residences—some may receive a 20% loan increase for mitigation work—as part of the disaster declaration requested by Gov. Greg Abbott. KRIS 6 News
- ➤ Construction crews will start installing water and sewer lines at Bob Hall Pier on March 24 and are expected to work for about five days. Driving on the beach immediately in front of the pier will be closed during this period. KRIS 6 News
- ➤ Corpus Christi has a new bike lane on Lipes Boulevard that uses rumble strips to help keep drivers away from cyclists and scooter riders along a half-mile stretch between Sunwood Dr. and South Staples St. iBikeCC will host a celebration on Sunday, April 6 from 6 to 8 p.m. as part of a $1.5 million plan to add more bike paths.
