- ➤ Parole was denied for Selena’s killer Yolanda Saldívar because the parole board said her 1995 crime showed brutality — they found that she is a threat to public safety — and her next review is set for March 2030. KIII-TV
CULTURE NEWS
- ➤ The Wall That Heals, a traveling replica of the Vietnam Veterans Memorial, opened Thursday morning in Corpus Christi (honoring more than 58,000 service members who lost their lives). Vietnam veteran Ramon Ortiz said the memorial offers a place for healing and it will remain open 24/7 through Sunday afternoon. KRIS 6 News
EDUCATION NEWS
- ➤ CCISD launched its Associate Teacher Program so those with a Bachelor’s degree can teach while earning certification and has already filled 85 positions—draft day on April 26 at Mary Carroll High School will let more candidates apply. The program shifts long-term substitutes and paraprofessionals into full-time roles to give students steady learning. KRIS 6 News
- ➤ Corpus Christi ISD honored 80 community members, businesses and organizations at its annual Partners in Education Awards luncheon on Thursday — recognizing contributions to school health, early childhood support and extracurricular programs — and celebrated their impact on district education. - ➤ The Corpus Christi Police Department held an indoor groundbreaking ceremony last Wednesday for a new police substation at West Guth Park—moved indoors due to rain.
