- ➤ Mr. Gatti's Pizza broke ground in Portland on Tuesday, April 1 as the popular chain returns to South Texas. The restaurant will be built off Highway 181 (across from Olive Garden) and is set to open in December. KRIS 6 News
CRIME NEWS
- ➤ On Saturday, March 29, Border Patrol agents at the I-35 checkpoint north of Laredo seized 51 packages of alleged cocaine (nearly 60kg) valued at $4.1 million (8:40 p.m.) and turned the driver over to the Drug Enforcement Administration. KRIS 6 News
GOVERNMENT NEWS
- ➤ TxDOT is starting a $58 million ramp reversal project on SPID between Staples and Nile that will be divided into seven phases and include additional work on frontage roads, bridges, drainage, ADA ramps and sidewalks (project completion is expected in 2029). KRIS 6 News
- ➤ Gov. Abbott said water will be considered an emergency item—meant to guide future water solutions—for Corpus Christi during his discussion with 3NEWS. KIII-TV
- ➤ Eligible taxpayers can get free tax help from the IRS Volunteer Income Tax Assistance program at several Corpus Christi locations before the April 15 deadline. In-person services are offered at Texas A&M University-Corpus Christi (2 to 6 p.m. on Fridays and 1 to 6 p.m. on weekends) and at Del Mar College on Tuesdays and Thursdays, with drop-off options at Goodwill Industries, United Way, and Veterans Memorial High School. - ➤ Corpus Christi released this week's mosquito spraying schedule from March 31 through April 4 to control the rising number of mosquitoes after recent rains. City officials said the tentative routes may change with weather conditions — residents are urged to use repellent and remove standing water to reduce breeding sites. KRIS 6 News
