  • Texas Police Chiefs Association donated over $10K to Special Olympics Texas in Corpus Christi today, continuing a long-standing partnership that supports local athlete programs.  KIII-TV
  • Corpus Christi Animal Care Services is teaming up with J. Barrera Law to cover adoption fees for up to 40 dogs and cats each month starting today at the shelter on Holly Road - all sponsored pets are spayed or neutered, microchipped and vaccinated.  KRIS 6 News

CULTURE NEWS

  • The sixth annual Mariachi Festival kicks off at H-E-B Performance Hall on campus from April 8 to April 12, featuring student ensembles, professional acts and traditional dances. Ticket prices start at $5 for students and $34.50 for adults.  KRIS 6 News

ENVIRONMENT NEWS

  • Corpus Christi officials advise residents to check their water meters each month to catch hidden leaks ahead of possible Level 1 water restrictions. Stephen Lynn recommends turning off indoor water and checking the meter outside — even a small leak can use thousands of extra gallons.  Action 10 News

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • Corpus Christi said on Tuesday that state law lets it cut water to 23 exempt industrial users who do not reduce consumption during a water emergency. City officials noted that exempt users do not face drought surcharges during a Level One Water Emergency, spurring debate among council members.  Action 10 News
  • Congressman Vicente Gonzalez is working with state lawmakers to rename public buildings and streets after Corpus Christi native Dr. Hector P. Garcia, a noted civil rights leader whose legacy he says deserves honor amid cancelled Cesar Chavez Day events.  KRIS 6 News
  • Corpus Christi Army Depot will install four atmospheric water generators with nearly $1 million in state funding to reduce reliance on municipal water and better preserve local supply. The plan targets high-demand production areas and is set to ease pressure on the city system.  KRIS 6 News
