COMMUNITY NEWS

  • The Diocese of Corpus Christi holds its second annual BBQ event today for high school and college graduates, featuring a special appearance by the bishop. The event offers graduates a chance to join a community celebration in a familiar setting (with safe food practices in place).  KIII-TV
  • More than 100 volunteers packed care bags for sexual assault survivors at the Coastal Bend Wellness Foundation Saturday—filling the bags with hygiene items, a journal, a bear and service information to support safe exams at local hospitals during Sexual Assault Awareness Month.  KIII-TV

CRIME NEWS

  • Corpus Christi police arrested three drivers on reckless driving charges over the weekend when officers pulled over individuals for dangerous speeding on local highways—Gabriel Nava was charged after being seen cutting through traffic on Horne Road and Crosstown Expressway while carrying a gun and an open container, Jacob Pinkston was arrested for DWI and speeding on Ocean Drive, and Jose Valadez-Delacruz was caught speeding over 100mph on SPID early Saturday.  KRIS 6 News
  • A wanted felon was arrested early Sunday morning after leading police on a brief chase and barricading himself in a vehicle—he was taken into custody without further incident.  KIII-TV
  • Corpus Christi police arrested a 45-year-old wanted felon Sunday morning on Naval Air Station Drive after a brief chase ended when he barricaded himself in a vehicle at a southside home—SWAT and the Hostage Negotiation Team spent several hours urging him to surrender until his car caught fire, and he now faces charges for parole violation, unlawful possession of a firearm, evading arrest, and resisting arrest.  KIII-TV

ENVIRONMENT NEWS

  • The 26th Earth Day — Bay Day will feature over 70 organizations offering demos, presentations and interactive exhibits to engage local residents with environmental projects.  KIII-TV
  • The Coastal Bend Bays Foundation will host the 26th Earth Day — Bay Day festival at Heritage Park on Saturday from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m., with over 70 local groups presenting demos and interactive exhibits that include an oyster recycling program to build habitats for marine life.  KIII-TV
  • Coastal flooding disrupted weekend plans at the John Olvey Texas State Surfing Championship — many needed assistance — leaving affected individuals in need of help after the event.  KIII-TV

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • Corpus Christi Fire Department will move into a new Fire Station 3 on Morgan Avenue by the end of April (updating the old station to support larger fire trucks and reduce diesel exhaust exposure) while keeping service uninterrupted during construction. The department said similar upgrades are planned for additional stations (including Fire Stations 8, 9, 10, and 11) as it works to replace aging facilities.  KIII-TV
  • CCFD's new Fire Station 3 on Morgan Avenue is nearly complete and firefighters will move in soon from the decades-old facility (pending final inspections).  KIII-TV
