Good morning, Corpus Christi. Here's your local news at a glance for Tuesday, the 8th of April.

ACCIDENTS NEWS

  • WB Hwy. 358 from Everhart to Kostoryz was closed at around 6:30 a.m. today as police investigate a crash.  KIII-TV

CRIME NEWS

  • Corpus Christi police arrested 45-year-old Aaron Granberry on Sunday after pursuing his erratic vehicle from Naval Air Station Drive to his Bay Area residence where SWAT and the Hostage Negotiation Team coordinated a standoff when his vehicle caught fire, forcing him to leave; he now faces charges for a parole violation and unlawful possession of a firearm by a felon, evading arrest and resisting arrest.  Caller Times

EDUCATION NEWS

  • Three teachers in Port Aransas ISD have received scholarships to further their education with certificates and master's programs — most funds came from a $5,000 donation by Texas SandFest — marking the first time the district has awarded scholarships to staff amid rising education costs.  KRIS 6 News

ENVIRONMENT NEWS

  • Some Corpus Christi residents reported that tap water smelled like a swimming pool and tasted like sulfur after the Mary Rhodes Pipeline began operating at a higher flow on March 24. Corpus Christi Water said it received 42 reports and tested the water to confirm it remains safe (officials are closely monitoring the situation).  KRIS 6 News

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • The design for the Trestle Trail hike and bike bridge from the Corpus Christi mainland to Flour Bluff was approved with permission — the bridge will start at the end of Holly Road and extend into Flour Bluff. Officials said they will move the project into construction soon — details on next steps are expected.  KIII-TV
  • Corpus Christi police arrested a wanted felon after a standoff in Flour Bluff and made more reckless driving arrests over the weekend while mosquito spraying was scheduled in several areas. City officials adjusted the water blend after reports of taste changes and are testing drinking water quality — road closures on Nueces Bay Boulevard and reduced I-37 lanes are affecting local traffic as work on the Harbor Bridge continues.  KRIS 6 News
  • The USPS announced Monday that Corpus Christi mail processing will remain in town instead of moving to San Antonio—avoiding delivery delays and concerns over job losses. The agency will invest $5.4 million to upgrade its facility at 909 Nueces Bay Blvd and modernize the technology with no expected impact on current staff.  Caller Times

HEALTH NEWS

  • A local health expert warned that misinformation about the measles outbreak in Texas, which has 480 confirmed cases and three measles-related deaths, could lead to unsafe treatment practices. Dr. James Mobley urged proper use of the MMR vaccine and careful dosing of vitamin A (wrong doses can cause toxicity) to help prevent further spread.  KRIS 6 News

REAL ESTATE NEWS

  • Paul Hayden Developments will present a plan for The Reserves at Oso Creek near Corpus Christi International Airport and Oso Creek during today's city council meeting—the council will also vote on a resolution to create a Municipal Management District. The proposed 255-acre community will have 929 residential lots, parks, trails and commercial pads, be built in four phases over eight years, and is expected to generate $3.25 million in annual tax revenue for West Oso ISD.  KRIS 6 News
