COMMUNITY NEWS

  • At the City Council meeting yesterday, a plan for a 255-acre housing development called The Reserves at Oso Creek was presented, and today members are voting on the Holly Road Train Trestle project while the police department presents eight years of crime data. Residents can join a Litter Critter cleanup on April 12 — eight Budweiser Clydesdales will arrive at La Palmera Mall on April 22 and the Hooks celebrated their 20th anniversary with a new mural yesterday.  KRIS 6 News

  • A local store owner was injured during a robbery on Tuesday morning, and police said the suspect is wanted for aggravated robbery—details of the stolen items remain unknown.  KIII-TV

CULTURE NEWS

  • Texas A and M University-Corpus Christi has renamed its 1350 seat performance hall the HEB Performance Hall after receiving a 1 million dollar gift from HEB. The donation will pay for new seating and a display screen as the university prepares the space for local and national performances.  Caller Times
  • Hooks unveiled a mural celebrating 20 years in Corpus Christi today. The artwork marks two decades of service and shows the company’s connection with local residents.  KIII-TV

EDUCATION NEWS

  • Del Mar College will waive tuition and fees for private school and home-schooled students taking dual credit courses starting fall after the board of regents approved the change on Tuesday. College President Mark Escamilla said the waiver is expected to boost enrollment and ease costs for students.  Caller Times

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • A Texas Department of Transportation contractor will install drainage systems at three locations along US 77 southbound from Kleberg County Road 2140 to Kleberg County Road 2210 in Ricardo starting today through April 14. Officials said lane closures begin at 7 a.m. and end by 6:30 p.m. daily—motorists are advised to allow extra travel time while work is weather permitting.  KRIS 6 News
  • Nueces County ESD #2 is expanding to open a new fire station on Padre Island at Compass Street where the Christus Trinity Clinic is located; the project is expected to be ready by Memorial Day weekend without raising taxes. Sherry Culvahouse, a local mother who lost her daughter Kaylee in March 2024 due to delayed emergency response, said the added first responder resources will help improve community response times — residents may expect faster help when needed.  KRIS 6 News
  • USPS announced that it will keep mail processing in Corpus Christi, reversing earlier plans to move operations elsewhere.  KIII-TV

REAL ESTATE NEWS

  • Developers are planning construction of a 72-unit apartment complex for low-income seniors on the former Lamar Elementary School site in Corpus Christi—called The Palms at Morris. The project will cost $19.4 million and received a $1.16 million city loan to offset rising costs—local officials say it is a key step in Westside revitalization.  Caller Times
