COMMUNITY NEWS

  • Naval Air Station-Corpus Christi will host the 2025 Wings Over South Texas Air Show on May 10, featuring the U.S. Navy’s Blue Angels and aerobatic performers—Friday’s show will be limited to base access and guests while Saturday’s event will be open to the public.  KRIS 6 News
  • Local crews in Rockport battled a wildfire that started Wednesday on Hwy 35 and burned over 187 acres—firefighters are still working to contain it. Investigators identified 68-year-old Armando Bosquez, whose body was found on US Hwy 77 between Thursday night and early Friday, and county officials approved a Padre Balli RV Park expansion with new RV and camping spaces that will begin construction next year.  KRIS 6 News

BUSINESS NEWS

  • A 90,000-square-foot family-friendly entertainment center is planned near Rodd Field Road and South Padre Island Drive on the Southside pending city council’s vote Tuesday on a Chapter 380 incentive agreement—if approved, the $40 million project requesting up to $4 million in tax reimbursements will proceed with construction targeting a 2028 opening—while city staff estimates it could add over $1 million in property taxes within ten years.  KRIS 6 News

EDUCATION NEWS

  • Del Mar College celebrated the grand opening of its newly renovated White Library on April 10 — a five-story building with study spaces that have panoramic views, a sculpture gallery, and a learning commons with a café. The $28.2 million update modernized the old library — reuniting scattered book collections for easier access.  Caller Times
  • On Thursday, Del Mar College Heritage campus held the grand opening of the newly renovated White Library that cost over $27 million and features a coffee shop for students and a fifth floor with a 360 degree view of Corpus Christi. This follows the reopening of the Memorial Building two months ago.  KIII-TV
  • Kingsville ISD released a statement after many residents asked for answers about misused Harrel Elementary PTO funds and announced the 2025 Harrel PTO is dissolved effective today. The district requires a cashier's check for $7,583.64 to be donated to the Harrel Elementary playground budget and said internal and outside audits—forwarded to legal authorities—will guide further action.  KRIS 6 News

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • On Wednesday, the Nueces County Appraisal District placed Assistant Chief Appraiser Leticia Roberts and Chief Appraiser Ronnie Canales on paid administrative leave and ended the current request for proposals process amid claims of bid manipulation for a new computer software system. A letter from GSA Corp said that a Teams meeting on February 7th showed that Roberts and a coworker discussed changing scoring rules to help one vendor — prompting a full review — and the board will investigate the matter further.  KRIS 6 News
  • Harbor Bridge spokeswoman Lynn Allison said the new bridge will open to traffic in May—she shared key project details during her interview at 3NEWS studios. She noted that final plans for travel and safety measures are still in progress—official updates will come soon.  KIII-TV

  • The Corpus Christi IceRays host their first playoff series in six years today as they take on the Colorado Grit in a best-of-three series—game 1 starts at 7:35 p.m., game 2 is Saturday at 7:35 p.m. and game 3 will be Sunday at 3:05 p.m.  KIII-TV
  • Texas A&M-Corpus Christi named Toyelle Wilson as its new head coach for the women’s basketball team after a national search—she brings nearly two decades of coaching experience and 110 wins. She will be introduced at a press conference on April 15th at 2 p.m. in the Dugan Wellness Center.  KIII-TV
