COMMUNITY NEWS

  • Family, friends and community members will gather today at Ben's Community Market (located at the corner of Ayers and Brownlee) to remember beloved store owner Ben Mustafa, who was fatally shot in a 2014 robbery. Neighbors are invited to celebrate his life and honor loved ones lost to violent crimes.  KRIS 6 News
  • Corpus Christi police are investigating a late Saturday hit-and-run that struck a horse-drawn carriage— injuring a 24-year-old woman while leaving the carriage driver and horse safe; KISD Superintendent Cecilia Reynolds has submitted her intent to retire and the board will discuss her future at an upcoming meeting, with the city still accepting applications for its Drought Resilience Workforce Stability Program. Neighbors will honor the memory of Ben Mustafa today at 6 p.m. at Ben’s Community Market as Cole Park’s Pier Plaza closes tomorrow for shade improvements— and crews work to repair the Watergarden Fountain, which is expected to reopen by Saturday.  KRIS 6 News

  • City leaders held a hurricane preparedness meeting today to plan coordinated emergency responses and build trust with local partners—ensuring the city stays united for future storms.  KIII-TV
  • City crews began revamping Timbergate between South Staples and Snowgoose as the street turned one-way westbound—closing eastbound lanes for a $4.7M voter-approved project that will add new asphalt, curbs, gutters, sidewalks and an 8-ft. multi-use path; crews expect to finish the work by July 2026.  KIII-TV
  • The city sprayed for mosquitoes April 14 and will continue spraying until April 18 while urging residents to keep their yards maintained—officials say this helps the treatment work effectively.  KIII-TV
  • Corpus Christi Parks & Recreation Department closed the Watergarden fountain at 1901 N. Shoreline on April 13 for repairs due to failed components still under warranty until May. Fulton Construction will start work next week, and the fountain will remain closed through April 19 weather permitting.  KRIS 6 News
