- ➤ A giant Harbor Bridge mural is being painted on the exterior of City Church’s educational building at 4425 South Staples to celebrate the city’s history, & it is expected to be completed later this week. A ribbon-cutting ceremony is scheduled for Sunday at 12:30 p.m. Action 10 News
- ➤ Clyde Clifton McMeans, a Banquete native killed on the USS California during Pearl Harbor, will be buried with full military honors at 1 p.m. May 1 at Coastal Bend State Veterans Cemetery + his family will hold a funeral at 11 a.m. at River Hills Baptist Church. Caller Times
- ➤ Corpus Christi streets will be closed from April 25 through May 12 for Buc Days events including the Rally Night Parade on April 25 and the carnival opening on April 30; parking restrictions affect key routes (Shoreline, Resaca, Water, Fitzgerald, and Hughes streets) to support the festivities. ENVIRONMENT NEWS
- ➤ New drainage improvements on Everhart Road have successfully kept local businesses from flooding following a heavy rainfall test, with water quickly draining along the rebuilt section in February + local business owners report easier access. Action 10 News
- ➤ Nueces County drainage district remains concerned about wastewater discharge from Tesla’s lithium refining plant near Robstown. Workers found a pipe discharging into a ditch draining into Petronila Creek (which has ongoing water quality issues), and on April 15 the district asked Tesla to pause discharge until concerns are addressed. - ➤ Skywatchers in Corpus Christi can see the Lyrids meteor shower at its peak today, with 10-20 meteors per hour and occasional bright fireballs. The shower appears between midnight and dawn away from city lights as Earth passes through comet Thatcher's debris trail. Caller Times
GOVERNMENT NEWS
- ➤ Corpus Christi will close several streets starting Saturday, April 25, through Tuesday, May 12, to accommodate Buc Days Carnival and Rally Night Parade, with parking restrictions affecting the Leopard Street bridge area. Parade route streets will be closed from 4 p.m. to 10 p.m. on April 25. KRIS 6 News
- ➤ City staff confirmed community pools and splash pads will run at 25% reduced hours this summer due to concerns over a potential water emergency starting as early as September; the decision follows council feedback and aims to conserve roughly 1.8 million gallons of water normally used over the season.
