- ➤ A local CrossFit gym in Corpus Christi created a memorial workout called 'Hicks' to honor fallen Officer Kyle Hicks—featuring three exercises with numbers significant to the day he died and finishing at 7 p.m. The gym said it will hold the workout annually to remind everyone that freedom comes at a high cost. - ➤ Corpus Christi police are searching for a hit-and-run suspect after a woman was struck near King High School on April 18 at 10:30 p.m.—the Nueces County Sheriff warns neighbors of a phone scam where callers ask for money. Investigators identified an 88-year-old fire victim from Hebert Lane, District 2 residents will meet tonight at Greenwood Senior Center from 6–7 p.m.—CCRTA has set up a special parade viewing area with wristbands needed by 3 p.m. Friday and bird lovers can enjoy the Birdiest Festival at South Texas Botanical Gardens through Sunday during peak spring migration. - ➤ Gulf Coast Humane Society received the Rachael Ray No-Kill Excellence Grant to save stray animals by funding six shelters in the Coastal Bend region, including Sinton, Robstown, Aransas Pass, George West, San Diego & Beeville. The grant will help shelters care for animals that once faced euthanasia. KRIS 6 News

- ➤ Derrick Lamar Davis, 38, pleaded guilty on April 15 to charges of trafficking a child, possession of child pornography, and compelling prostitution when a 17-year-old girl said he drugged her on Oct. 11, and he was sentenced to 10 years in prison—he is ordered not to contact the victim. - ➤ Corpus Christi’s Buc Days festival begins tomorrow with the Rally Night Parade at 8 p.m. featuring marching bands, dancing, and dazzling floats along Leopard Street—other events include the Dunking of the Mayor on May 1, carnival rides and shops near the American Bank Center, bull riding on May 2—3, and Rodeo Corpus Christi with nightly concerts from May 6—10 that support college scholarships.
