- ➤ Local volunteers cleaned North Beach during the Adopt-a-Beach Spring Cleanup on Saturday morning—removing trash along the shoreline as part of a long-term community effort. KRIS 6 News
- ➤ Tuloso-Midway Middle School hosted its 6th annual La Fiesta del Mariachi on Sunday afternoon — students performed for friends and family while selling tamales and pan dulce to raise funds for their mariachi band. KRIS 6 News
CRIME NEWS
- ➤ Former union president Robert Cirilo (42) pleaded guilty to wire fraud and embezzlement after admitting to 430 unauthorized transactions from union accounts for personal purchases, and he is scheduled for sentencing on August 12 where he could face up to 20 years in prison for wire fraud and five years for embezzlement. - ➤ A Corpus Christi man named Robert Cirilo, a 42 year old former union president, admitted guilty to wire fraud and embezzlement of over $280K by making about 430 unauthorized transfers from union funds — he will be sentenced on August 12. KIII-TV
EDUCATION NEWS
- ➤ Flour Bluff ISD leaders have proposed a $193 million bond to renovate aging schools, improve safety measures and add new learning spaces. The bond will be voted on during early voting on April 29 and on May 3 — the fourth bond in the district's 130-year history — which would fund campus upgrades across the district. KIII-TV
- ➤ On April 24, the Texas Education Agency released ratings for the 2022-23 school year and many Corpus Christi ISD campuses received lower grades, with six earning A ratings but eleven earning failing scores due to new methods and pandemic learning losses—CCISD officials noted some progress and expect further improvement. - ➤ The Corpus Christi Police Department honored two fallen officers at the Texas Police Officers Memorial in Austin as Officer Kyle Hicks and Officer Vicente Ortiz were inducted into the Wall of Honor. The memorial recognizes over 2,000 officers who died in the line of duty. KRIS 6 News
