- ➤ Today the 87th annual Buc Days Festival opened in Corpus Christi with rides, games, and robotics competitions that offer scholarship opportunities—organized by the Buc Days Commission, the event will run for 11 days to benefit local students. KRIS 6 News
ECONOMY NEWS
- ➤ Officials at a rural school district voted Tuesday to start tax break negotiations with ExxonMobil for a $10 billion plastics plant north of Corpus Christi. The project will produce up to 3 million tons of plastic pellets for export—create 600 permanent jobs, employ 3,000 construction workers at its peak, and eventually pay over $80 million a year in local taxes. - ➤ A $3.6 million project to repair Bonner Drive between Everhart Road and Flynn Parkway starts this month and will add new asphalt, sidewalks, ADA ramps, and signage. The work is set to finish in December 2026 as a long-term solution to ongoing road problems. KRIS 6 News
- ➤ Texas lawmakers advanced bills that would ban minors from creating social media accounts and require age verification—letting parents delete their child's account if they wish. The House passed one bill on Tuesday with 116 votes, and the measures could lead to stricter rules for platforms like TikTok and Instagram later this year or early next year. Caller Times
- ➤ Coastal Bend school districts are asking voters on May 3 to approve multi-million dollar bonds to upgrade school facilities, boost student resources, and improve campus safety. Gregory Portland ISD, Flour Bluff ISD, Ingleside ISD, Agua Dulce ISD, and Benevides ISD each have detailed plans—ranging from $10 million to $205 million—to address facility needs as their communities grow. - ➤ Downtown Corpus Christi installed new color-changing lights on 64 oak trees and 43 palm trees along Chaparral Street as part of the ¡Iluminando! safety initiative—designed to boost pedestrian safety.
