  • Neighbors gathered on Saturday for the inaugural Cinco de Mayo Fiesta hosted by Catholic Charities and Mother Teresa Shelter to benefit a special abilities program. Director Becky Pugh said the event featured dance, health and financial workshops, and 12 craft and food vendors — with sponsors including Texas A&M University-Corpus Christi, Chris Swann, and Driscoll Health.  KRIS 6 News
  • Corpus Christi residents will be able to shred unwanted items and documents at the Litter Critter community clean-up event on Saturday, May 10 from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. at Veterans Memorial High School's parking lot located at 3750 Cimarron Boulevard — commercial hauling is not permitted and shredding services run until noon.  KIII-TV
  • Crawfish for a Cause returned this year to Corpus Christi—raising hundreds of thousands of dollars for local nonprofits that serve underserved children and families at the Wesley Community Center and the Junior League of Corpus Christi.   • Visit Corpus Christi is preparing to celebrate National Travel and Tourism Week with a citywide scavenger hunt — and local coffee shops will join in by offering free coffee tomorrow. GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • Voters in Nueces County cast just under 4000 ballots — approving a $193M bond for Flour Bluff ISD that will fund future school projects.  KIII-TV
  • Unofficial May 3 election returns from Nueces, San Patricio and Aransas counties show outcomes in school board, mayoral and city council races as well as votes on bond measures for school facilities — results in Nueces and Aransas were complete by 8:30 p.m. while updates for San Patricio are pending.  Caller Times
  • Projected winners emerged in elections for mayor, council, and school board seats in several San Patricio County cities as 100% of the votes were counted—some races were unopposed while key charter propositions passed. Voters also approved bond issues for school facilities and municipal projects in districts like Gregory-Portland and Ingleside.  KRIS 6 News
