- ➤ On Wednesday morning, over 700 power customers in Corpus Christi, Flour Bluff and Padre Island lost service and outages were also reported in Sinton, Kingsville, Duval County, Premont and Calallen—crews worked to restore power although repairs could take several hours. KRIS 6 News

- ➤ Joe David Padron, who spent over two decades in prison for a double homicide, may soon face another trial after his conviction was vacated last month due to false testimony — prosecutors have asked for 30 days to decide with the next hearing set for June 4. KRIS 6 News
CULTURE NEWS
- ➤ South Texas Botanical Gardens will host Mariposa Palooza on May 10-11 with a butterfly art show displaying 60 large metal butterflies and free mom admission when the password —Butterfly— is given; the exhibit is partly funded by a $14,000 grant from the City of Corpus Christi Arts and Cultural Commission and will include art contests with cash prizes while running through November 2. - ➤ The Nueces County Junior Livestock Show awarded scholarships to youth who spent years raising animals and working in agricultural programs. The awards will support their education and future careers in farming. KRIS 6 News

- ➤ Coastal Bend students from the Rockport-Fulton, Flour Bluff and Corpus Christi independent school districts volunteered on May 7 to restore an oyster reef at Goose Island State Park—an effort led by the Harte Research Institute. Caller Times

- ➤ Corpus Christi Mayor Paulette Guajardo proclaimed May as Motorcycle Safety and Awareness Month during Tuesday's City Council meeting, with the family of fallen Senior Officer Vicente Ortiz, Jr. present; TxDOT data shows 581 motorcycle fatalities and over 2,500 serious injuries last year — safety experts urge riders to wear helmets and avoid distracted driving.
