- ➤ On Wednesday, City Manager Peter Zanoni ordered Corpus Christi Animal Care Services to stop disposing of euthanized animals in the landfill and instead store them in a freezer until their cremation unit is repaired or storage capacity is reached, at which point animals will be sent to Pet Memorial Center for cremation at a fee of $2,500 each. Councilman Eric Cantu explained that the facility had been using the landfill since February after its 10-year-old unit broke down and repairs are expected the week of June 9 — the city now works on a long-term solution.
