COMMUNITY NEWS

  • The Ride for the Warriors Poker Run will be held Saturday, May 17 in Corpus Christi and gives riders a chance to win a $1,000 cash prize while supporting local combat veterans and Burn Pits 360. The Combat Veterans Motorcycle Association leads the event with support from the Heil Law Firm and Harley-Davidson (which will also feature live music, food trucks, free drinks, and a 50-50 raffle) to attract participants.  KRIS 6 News
  • Storm cleanup is underway today in Alice and Bishop as crews clear storm debris, and a mobile food bank will distribute supplies Tuesday from 7 a.m. to 9:30 a.m. at 5442 Bear Lane; Corpus Christi Cathedral will close May 26 for renovations with final Masses May 24 and 25—Airline Road will be closed Tuesday 8 p.m. to Wednesday 6 a.m. and Staples will close Wednesday 8 p.m. to Thursday 6 a.m. while lane closures affect U.S. 181 and FM 2986 in Portland.  KRIS 6 News

CRIME NEWS

  • Port Aransas Police arrested George Baermann, 41, on Saturday at 8 p.m. after his Ford F250 struck 61-year-old Heather Miller in a golf cart, killing her—he had a DWI case dismissed on March 3rd, 2023.  KRIS 6 News

EDUCATION NEWS

  • Del Mar College will award 1,214 certificates and associate’s degrees this Friday at 7 p.m. at the American Bank Center in Corpus Christi—tickets are limited so the event will be livestreamed at 6:30 p.m. with special guest speaker Dr. Wayne Morris, a college alumnus and former Vikings football player.  KIII-TV

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • Elizabeth Street near Christus Spohn Hospital in Corpus Christi reopened after a $2.4 million reconstruction project — the work added new asphalt, sidewalks, ADA-compliant curb ramps, and upgraded traffic signals while keeping hospital access open throughout construction.  KRIS 6 News
  • The Corpus Christi Fire Department held an awards ceremony on Friday to honor emergency responders who saved baseball player Quinn Supnet after he became unresponsive in a March game collision. Alex Benavides received the Citizens Lifesaving Award — the recognition was given for his decisive actions — and Supnet made a full recovery.  KRIS 6 News

  • Driscoll Children's Hospital honored 12 nurses at a special luncheon Monday in Corpus Christi—Ashley Rodriguez, working in the NICU, was named Nurse of the Year and received a new BMW for her exceptional care.  KRIS 6 News

  • Incarnate Word Academy's Angel Tennis team won its second consecutive state championship in the 4-A division on April 7-8 at the Waco Tennis Regional Center — senior Kameron Fernandez was runner-up in boys singles while Cameron Rybar and Nikhil Madappa secured the boys doubles title.  KRIS 6 News
