  • Corpus Christi officials are debating converting courts at the Al Kruse Tennis Center into pickleball courts as local players weigh growing demand with preserving tennis space. The proposal will be reviewed after community input is gathered.  KIII-TV
  • Lonestar Dads is hosting a free Fishing With Dad beach event on Saturday, May 16 near Bob Hall Pier with free food + bait + rod rentals.  KIII-TV

EDUCATION NEWS

  • Former teacher Robert Parks, who taught history for 33 years at Tom Browne Middle School and Carroll High School, died at 76 — he led inspiring trips to Europe and Washington, D.C. His legacy lives on in the community and continues to inspire students.  Action 10 News
  • Veterans Memorial High School student Leah Rae Perez won a 2026 Ford Bronco at the Drive Sames for Education Car Giveaway Finale at Sames Ford. 1,600 students earned vouchers by keeping perfect attendance in the 2025–2026 school year + a State Farm agent covered fees so Perez drove free.  Action 10 News
  • Corpus Christi Independent School District is proposing to change bell schedules in selected middle and elementary schools by starting middle school classes at 8:20 a.m. and ending at 3:40 p.m. and adjusting elementary times to 7:50 a.m. and 2:50 p.m. amid a bus driver shortage (a local parent raised concerns).  KRIS 6 News

ENVIRONMENT NEWS

  • Corpus Christi is selling rain barrels at City Hall for $47 plus tax; eligible residents can buy up to two barrels and pick them up at the city warehouse on Civitan Drive — available Monday through Friday, 8:30 a.m. to 12:00 p.m. and 1:00 p.m. to 4:30 p.m.  Action 10 News
  • Corpus Christi residents can buy 55-gallon rain barrels for $47 plus tax at City Hall + pick up at the city warehouse on Civitan Drive Monday-Friday, 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. The program is for customers with water service.  KRIS 6 News

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • Corpus Christi City Council awarded a $16.2 million contract to Reytec Construction Resources Tuesday to build a pump station and reclaimed water line connecting the Oso and Greenwood reclamation plants, which will supply reclaimed water to Valero for industrial use — boosting sustainable water management and economic growth.  KRIS 6 News
  • Residents questioned a proposed Nueces County data center at a Corpus Christi water meeting Monday night amid the ongoing drought. City officials said the facility will use a closed loop water system (with water purchased for restrooms) and new drought restrictions will apply if water use exceeds limits.  KIII-TV

REAL ESTATE NEWS

  • In Nueces County, median home prices stayed at $257,841 in February, matching January’s figures as overall sales dropped by 5% from last year while condo prices jumped.  Caller Times
