- ➤ Fire crews are working to contain a grass fire near the Highway 77 — I-37 interchange close to Odem with the fire 75% contained and the cause under investigation. KIII-TV
CRIME NEWS
- ➤ Corpus Christi police arrested 42-year-old Ruben Contreras — his SUV was clocked at 105 mph on South Padre Island Drive near Weber Road at 2:30 a.m. Sunday after he changed lanes and cut off other drivers. KRIS 6 News
- ➤ Two men are recovering after an early morning shooting in downtown Corpus Christi—police report the victims remain stable. KIII-TV
- ➤ Police are asking for help locating missing 18-year-old Nicole Guest who was last seen leaving her home near the intersection of Airport Rd and Old Brownsville Rd at 4:45 a.m. Sunday—she was wearing a black hoodie and black pants and has autism—and ask anyone with information to call 911. KRIS 6 News
- ➤ Two men were injured in an early morning shooting near 100 N. Shoreline Blvd in downtown Corpus Christi when gunfire erupted between members of different car clubs, and both victims are in stable condition while police investigate the incident. KRIS 6 News

- ➤ Last Monday, Bishop CISD passed a multi-layered school safety plan that creates a framework for a new police department featuring armed officers for campus security — a resolution to form the department will be proposed at next month's school board meeting. KIII-TV
- ➤ Veterans Memorial High School held its senior prom at American Bank Center on May 17 and students danced, took photos, and enjoyed music to celebrate their milestone— they built memories during an exciting night. GOVERNMENT NEWS
- ➤ Coastal Bend lawmakers passed a bill that lets local governments use uncontested property values from large taxpayers during disputes—local officials say this change will help counties and schools plan budgets while awaiting Gov. Abbott’s signature. The law comes after budget shortfalls in Nueces County when challenges to property values forced cuts and uncertainty. Caller Times
- ➤ Nueces County officials said District 5 received a grant of $31 million to repair Banquete's old drainage and wastewater problems; $2.5 million is set for sewer upgrades and $1.5 million for wastewater projects.
