- ➤ Starting July 1, the American Bank Center will become a cashless facility to speed up transactions and boost safety for guests. Visitors can reserve parking for $12 via the ParkMobile app – Texas A&M University-Corpus Christi students will park free at Islanders games with a valid student ID. Caller Times
ENVIRONMENT NEWS
- ➤ Padre Island National Seashore experts said the endangered Kemp's Ridley sea turtle nesting season has 326 nests so far — nearly breaking the 2017 record of 353 nests, with 196 nests found right at Padre Island. They noted that public viewing of baby turtle releases will be scheduled later in June. KRIS 6 News
GOVERNMENT NEWS
- ➤ Governor Abbott approved a disaster declaration for South Texas counties after severe storms hit the Coastal Bend last month. The declaration covers counties (Brooks, Duval, Jim Wells, Kleberg, Live Oak, Nueces, and San Patricio) and will help residents and businesses access low-interest SBA loans. KRIS 6 News
- ➤ Residents in Petronila and other parts of Nueces County can now apply for SBA disaster loans to rebuild homes damaged by the May 8 storm after Governor Abbott’s disaster declaration. Nueces County Emergency Management will help applicants learn about home disaster, business physical disaster, and EIDL loans (for loss of income) as they work to recover. KRIS 6 News
- ➤ A $30 million grant from the Texas Preservation Trust Fund will help reopen the historic Ritz Theatre if Governor Greg Abbott approves the budget, a plan that is expected to add $7 million to Corpus Christi’s economy and create 125 full-time jobs (the venue first opened in 1929 and closed in 1989). - ➤ Corpus Christi has launched an online survey to collect resident input on how to address a $7 million budget shortfall for Fiscal Year 2026 — the survey runs from June 2 to June 15 and asks for priorities on services, infrastructure, and public safety. KRIS 6 News
