  • The London Pirates won their second baseball state title by defeating Texarkana in the UIL 3A State Division Championship at Dell Diamond — the Calallen Wildcats will face Texarkana Pleasant Grove in the UIL State Championship today at noon. The Texas State Aquarium is expanding parking with an overflow lot and shuttle service — Corpus Christi Parks is hosting junior lifeguard camps from June 9th to 12th, the Nueces County Sheriff's Office is holding a Safe Summer Kickoff tomorrow at the Richard M. Borchard Fairgrounds, and Robstown City Hall is hosting a hurricane preparedness town hall today from 5:30 to 7 p.m.  KRIS 6 News
  • Local groups are asking for volunteers to help speak up for hundreds of children in the coastal bend foster care system—many of whom are still waiting for necessary advocacy.  KIII-TV

  • Columbus muralist Mandy Caskey completed a large mural of a Hispanic woman playing the guitar on the Hilliard Building at 719 South Shoreline Boulevard on Shoreline Terrace—owner Bob Hilliard said he now fully supports adding art to the new structure after his initial hesitation.  KRIS 6 News

EDUCATION NEWS

  • Students from San Diego ISD toured Corpus Christi to learn about culinary careers on a trip organized by the Uncommon Junior Chef Program+ the tour stopped at the Del Mar College Culinary Program, Driftwood Coffee Company and the Republic of Texas restaurant at the Omni Hotel. Dr. Dahaval Patel said the tour showed how the food industry works and the program will continue next school year with more community trips.  KRIS 6 News

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • Corpus Christi City Councilman Eric Cantu blasted the city on Wednesday for rejecting Thomas J. Henry’s $1.25 million-a-year naming rights bid for the American Bank Center, saying the offer could help cover a $7 million budget gap. City officials said Oak View Group is managing the process and that council members will question OVG’s recommendations next week — a meeting will allow them to review feedback and next steps.  KIII-TV

  • The CDC confirmed that a 71-year-old Texas woman died in 2024 after using RV tap water for a nasal rinse—health officials warn that untreated water can host the brain-eating amoeba Naegleria fowleri and urge proper water treatment for nasal rinsing.  KRIS 6 News
  • Driscoll Children's Hospital completed a $100 million, 50,000-square-foot expansion of its pediatric heart center on June 5; the upgrade includes two operating rooms, two cardiac catheter labs, and a 35-bed cardiac intensive care unit—boosting its capacity for over 500 heart surgeries a year.  Caller Times
