CRIME NEWS
- ➤ Corpus Christi police are asking for help to locate Melinda Martinez, a 58-year-old woman with early dementia who was last seen in December 2024 near Staples Street Station, Mother Theresa shelter, and the areas around Horne Road and Columbia Street—anyone with information should call 911. CULTURE NEWS
- ➤ This summer, Corpus Christi and nearby venues will host a range of art exhibitions that showcase both modern and traditional works at locations including Rockport Center for the Arts, Art Museum of South Texas, K Space Contemporary, Art Center of Corpus Christi and Port Aransas Art Center. The programs feature Susie Black’s 'For the Love of Fabric' from June 7—July 27 with a reception on June 14, James Tisdale’s 'Reflections' from June 17 to Aug. 10, local shows at the Art Center running until June 28, and new installations opening in July and August. EDUCATION NEWS
- ➤ The CCISD School Board met Monday to review the final 2025-2026 budget that gives staff a $500 bonus and includes potential raises—$2,500 for teachers, nurses, and librarians with 1–4 years of experience and $5,000 for those with 5 or more, plus percentage increases for support staff based on their tenure. A public hearing will be held today at 3:30 p.m. to review the budget before the board meets again on August 25 to adopt the new tax rate. KRIS 6 News

- ➤ Corpus Christi water chief Peter Molly said the combined levels of Choke Canyon and Lake Corpus Christi dropped to 14.9% amid a worsening drought—he noted that the city plans to drill groundwater wells and start a seawater desalination project on June 28 to avoid further restrictions. KIII-TV
- ➤ The Texas Sealife Center will hold its second public sea turtle release event on Sunday, June 15th at 11 a.m. at mile marker 216 near Wyndham Corpus Christi Resort, and the nonprofit—dedicated to rehabilitating and releasing coastal wildlife—says the free event is open to everyone. KIII-TV

- ➤ Bishop Police Department is offering a free vacation watch program that will have officers inspect homes to ensure doors, windows, and vehicles are secure while residents are away; officers will leave a note and call if they find damage or suspicious activity. Residents can request these checks by calling Monday-Friday (8 a.m. to 5 p.m.). KIII-TV
- ➤ On Monday, students from West Oso School District asked Mayor Paulette Guajardo tough questions as part of the Youth Government Academy— a four-day program that shows how local government works. They toured sites like the police department and courtrooms and will continue learning through planned activities in the future. KIII-TV
- ➤ Corpus Christi City Council is set to discuss the naming rights for the American Bank Center today after Council members Carolyn Vaughn, Eric Cantu, and Sylvia Campos requested the issue be added to the agenda. The council will vote on awarding the naming rights to the highest bidder, which includes Attorney Thomas J. Henry’s $12.5 million bid—he urged a public vote for transparency. KRIS 6 News
- ➤ Corpus Christi Public Works Department will offer free sandbags at the Cabaniss Athletic Complex (3061 Saratoga Blvd) as neighbors prepare for hurricane season and rising summer heat. Neighbors may receive up to 8 sandbags per vehicle on Saturday, June 14 from 8 a.m. until 11 a.m. or when supplies run out, and again on Saturday, June 28 from 1 p.m. to 4 p.m. KRIS 6 News
