  • Thousands of protesters gathered today in Corpus Christi to deliver a clear message of 'No Kings' during a public demonstration against centralized power & calling for changes in local leadership. Organizers said the rally reflects growing community concerns and may lead to further events.  KIII-TV
  • On Saturday, community members gathered at the Hi-Ho Drive Inn on Baldwin Boulevard to support local legend Ronnie "Pointy Boots" Mathis — battling stage 4 prostate cancer — during a fundraiser organized by pitmaster Pete Trevino. More than 600 guests enjoyed food while raising funds that will help cover his medical expenses.  KRIS 6 News

CULTURE NEWS

  • Today is Women Veterans Day and the USS Lexington Museum in Corpus Christi features a new exhibit that honors the work of women in the Navy — the display covers milestones from women working as nurses in 1908 to joining the carrier permanently in 1980. It also notes the impact of the 1948 Women's Armed Services Integration Act that allowed women to serve full-time in the regular armed forces.  Action 10 News
  • The Caller-Times presents a retrospective of front-page photos taken on June 15 over the past 20 years, featuring images of the Corpus Christi Hooks, sea turtles, and Johnny Canales. ENVIRONMENT NEWS

  • On June 14th, hundreds gathered at Malaquite Beach to watch over 300 endangered Kemp's ridley sea turtle hatchlings released into the wild—marking the first hatchling release event of the year.  Caller Times
  • Severe thunderstorms rolled through Coastal Bend and left thousands without power. The Texas State Aquarium lost electricity and 572 Nueces County customers were without power as of 10:55 p.m.—officials reported.  KIII-TV

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • Corpus Christi city employees distributed thousands of pre-filled sandbags yesterday to help residents prepare for Hurricane Season and avoid flooding—each vehicle received eight bags while many people lined up. The next distribution will be held on Saturday, June 28 at Cabaniss Athletic Complex at 3061 Saratoga Boulevard from 1 p.m. until 4 p.m.  KRIS 6 News
