  • At Home, a Texas-based home goods retailer, filed for Chapter 11 bankruptcy Monday, June 16 due to rising costs — including economic pressures and inflation. The company will close 26 underperforming stores by Sept. 30, including its Corpus Christi location at 949 Greenwood Drive.  Caller Times

CRIME NEWS

  • Corpus Christi police arrested three people—19-year-old Juan Ortiz Munoz on Ocean Drive for speeding and erratic lane changes, 22-year-old Tanner Loesch for reckless driving, unlawful weapon carrying, and possession of marijuana, and 19-year-old Hailey Campos near Airline and Williams for erratic driving, marijuana possession, and tampering—during recent traffic enforcement operations.  Action 10 News

  • City council will discuss a $75,000 plan to install 26 LED concrete poles at Swantner Park to improve nighttime visibility and safety around the seawall (with funding from the Parks Capital Fund) today.  KRIS 6 News
  • Starting today, the Harbor Bridge Project will close segments on I-37 and SH 286 from 9 p.m. to 6 a.m. until June 21 for overhead sign installation—portable message signs will help motorists find detours.  KRIS 6 News
  • State Rep. Denise Villalobos said the rescheduled ribbon-cutting for the new Harbor Bridge — which connects Corpus Christi and North Beach — is set for 10 a.m. June 28 after a May 10 postponement to complete final touches like lighting and striping. State Rep. Todd Hunter confirmed the new date as officials prepare to finalize the project.  KIII-TV
  • Corpus Christi Housing Authority CEO Gary Allsup earned nearly $800,000 in total compensation—including over $528,000 in base pay, nearly $258,000 in bonus, a monthly car allowance, and insurance—while the housing authority remains independent of city council oversight. Mayor Paulette Guajardo has called for immediate reforms to strengthen financial oversight, noting that Allsup’s contract guarantees continued pay through October 2029 if terminated without cause.  KRIS 6 News
