- ➤ Coastal Bend Food Bank received a $32,000 grant from the Morgan Stanley Foundation to support its Mobile Pantry Program—boosting food access for families in underserved areas while Morgan Stanley employees volunteered their time. KRIS 6 News
EDUCATION NEWS
- ➤ The G-PISD Board approved a $4.2 million compensation plan for 2025-26 that gives teachers with five or more years of experience a $5,000 raise and sets a starting salary of $63,000 for first-year teachers, while also providing a one-time $2,500 payment to full-time staff. The plan, partly funded by state House Bill 2 allotments, increases annual health insurance contributions to $4,800 & aims to boost teacher recruitment and retention. KRIS 6 News
GOVERNMENT NEWS
- ➤ As of early June, 100 Texas law enforcement agencies have signed 287(g) agreements with ICE, one of three models used to enforce immigration law, with the program forming part of more than 600 agreements nationwide. A pending Senate Bill 8 could require most counties (234 of 254) to join the program and is now under review by Gov. Greg Abbott. Caller Times
- ➤ Rumors about a crack and cover-up at Wesley Seale Dam are circulating online—Corpus Christi officials confirm that the water release is routine and the dam remains safe, with heavy equipment on site as part of a $25.5 million spillway improvement project approved in 2024. KRIS 6 News
- ➤ City Council approved nearly all parts of a multi-million dollar plan to upgrade Animal Care Services today, including almost $1 million for improvements and funding for three full-time positions plus additional safety measures. They postponed the $821,000 parking lot project for further cost analysis. KRIS 6 News
