- ➤ Elevate 361 Young Adult Re-Engagement Center received a $30,000 donation from H-E-B to set up a classroom for young adults ages 16 to 24 not in school or working, which serves over 6,000 at-risk youth in Corpus Christi — the new space will offer a quiet area for education and job readiness resources. - ➤ On June 26, House of Rock in Corpus Christi hosted its ninth annual Pride Diva Showcase and 15th annual Miss Corpus Christi Sweetheart Pageant where local performers competed; Zara Doll Diva—whose real name is Omar Velez—was crowned the winner. Caller Times
EDUCATION NEWS
- ➤ A federal budget proposal will cut the maximum Pell Grant by $1,500 and require students to take 30 credits, which could reduce aid for nearly 500,000 Texas college students including many at Texas A&M University Corpus Christi (40% of undergrads received Pell Grants last year). Community college students studying part-time may need to take extra courses or stop out as Texas faces a financial aid gap. Caller Times
GOVERNMENT NEWS
- ➤ Flatiron Dragados installed four temporary stays that support both towers of the new Harbor Bridge project and said the first permanent stay will be installed in late July. Engineers explained that the temporary stays use 27 strands each compared to permanent stays built with 70—121 strands and work will continue until the final permanent stay is in place for a 2025 finish. - ➤ The southbound lanes of the new Harbor Bridge open to the public today after a 10 a.m. ribbon-cutting ceremony—officials said the bridge connects Corpus Christi mainland to North Beach. TxDOT stated that the northbound lanes will open in early July. KIII-TV

- ➤ A new affordable housing project broke ground on Corpus Christi westside at the former Lamar Elementary site, where the City and Prospera Housing Community Services plan to build 72 senior housing units and 35 affordable homes. Donated land from the Ed Rachal Foundation will support the project—expected to boost investment—while work continues on the development. KRIS 6 News
