COMMUNITY NEWS

  • Corpus Christi will host the Texas Strong 5K race at West Guth Park on July 13th at 7 a.m.—all proceeds will go to aid victims of Central Texas floods.  KIII-TV

CRIME NEWS

  • A Corpus Christi officer and a suspect were shot overnight and are now in the hospital—officials say both are expected to be okay.  KIII-TV
  • Corpus Christi police arrested 53-year-old Chad Wayne Rodney on July 7 after he shot at officers at an Ocean Drive residence, causing one officer to be injured when another returned fire—he now faces six counts of aggravated assault on a peace officer and two counts of aggravated assault with a deadly weapon after doctors cleared him from treatment.  Caller Times

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • The South Texas Water Authority broke ground today on a desalination plant along Business 77 and FM 665 in a Nueces County cotton field that successfully pumped water during its test well. Corpus Christi officials must decide by September if they will buy up to 28 million gallons a day — a decision that could expand the project to include up to 60 wells.  KIII-TV
  • The new lanes on Harbor Bridge opened Tuesday to improve traffic flow for local drivers.  KIII-TV
  • A Corpus Christi officer and a suspect were hospitalized after a near midnight shootout at Villas of Ocean Drive Apartments, and a man shot on Southside later died with a 40-year-old suspect charged with murder. Dr. Rajesh Kannan resigned from the Nueces County Medical Examiner’s Office amid investigations (while federal rules now extend a hiring freeze, phase out 30,000 VA jobs, and impose 25% tariffs on goods from Japan and South Korea effective August 1).  KRIS 6 News
