  • OVG CEO Timothy J. Leiweke was indicted on charges of bid-rigging for an Austin university arena project, and Corpus Christi officials said they are watching the case for potential local impacts.  Caller Times

ECONOMY NEWS

  • Corpus Christi’s new Harbor Bridge will open soon to allow larger ships, boost port capacity, and spur local job growth—state Representative Todd Hunter and economist Dr. Deniz Gevrek expect even a 5% increase in port operations to add nearly a billion dollars to the regional economy. Additional development around North Beach and downtown is also planned to support the economic expansion.  Action 10 News

  • Corpus Christi residents can explore seven local nature trails this summer to enjoy outdoor walks, bird watching, and learning about South Texas wildlife. GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • The city of Corpus Christi will begin rebuilding Huntwick Avenue in front of H-E-B plus! on Monday, July 14th to improve road conditions and safety. The $954,452 project will add new concrete pavement, sidewalks, curb ramps, signage and drainage improvements—motorists should follow posted detour signs as work finishes by November.  KIII-TV
  • Drivers on Corpus Christi’s Westside are frustrated by a deep road cut on Barrera Drive near Horne Road that was only temporarily patched before; city officials said the cut will receive a permanent repair within the next two weeks+ weather permitting. Residents continue to express concern as the repair process moves slowly and their safety is challenged.  KRIS 6 News

HEALTH NEWS

  • CPS parked a bloodmobile outside its facility today to collect blood during the summer months. Officials say the drive will help ease the donation shortage as fewer people give blood during this time.  KIII-TV

SPORTS NEWS

  • Corpus Christi Hooks lost both games of a doubleheader to the Springfield Cardinals on Thursday, falling 5-4 in the first contest and 9-5 in the second. They now trail the series with three losses as it continues through Sunday.  KIII-TV
