COMMUNITY NEWS

  • On July 11, the Harbor Bridge Project partially opened its Shared Use Path to let pedestrians and cyclists travel from the south side of the bridge to the Belvedere for scenic views. The path is open daily from 8 a.m. to 8:30 p.m. and users must enter and exit through the south entrance—keeping a 2.3-mile round-trip route safe—while officials work to fully connect it to North Beach weather permitting.  KRIS 6 News

  • Police said a child was hit by a truck at Lulac Apartments on Horne Rd and taken to Driscoll Children's Hospital with life threatening injuries.  KIII-TV

  • Hawaiian Bros Island Grill is opening its first Corpus Christi location on Monday, July 14 at 11 a.m. at 5633 S Padre Island Drive—following finished construction earlier this week, the restaurant brings Hawaiian flavors inspired by owners' trips.  KRIS 6 News

  • Sean Taylor, 21, was indicted by a grand jury on two counts of aggravated assault for his part in a May 18 mass shooting on Shoreline Boulevard during a car club gathering—his arraignment will be set later in the 117th District Court.  Caller Times

  • The annual Plumeria event will be held tomorrow morning at South Texas Botanical Gardens in Coastal Bend with a sale planned for next Saturday.  KIII-TV

  • Nueces County will drop fines for juvenile offenders under a new program—Judge Joe Benavides said it gives young people a second chance.  KIII-TV
  • Deadly flooding in Central Texas has raised concerns in Corpus Christi as residents like Sadina Rider worry that a flash flood would allow only about 10 minutes to evacuate. Emergency Management Coordinator Jace Johnson said officials use geographic information technology to map flood risks and update the city's emergency website with evacuation maps and weather alerts — a step to improve readiness.  KRIS 6 News
