COMMUNITY NEWS

  • Freddy's Frozen Custard and Steakburgers in Texas have partnered with Convoy of Hope to help flood victims by letting guests round up their purchase totals (available at every location) from July 14 through July 31. All extra dollars will go to the Crisis Relief Fund (supporting immediate flood relief efforts).  KRIS 6 News
  • Corpus Christi Athletic Club will host a Pickleball for a Purpose fundraiser on July 16 to support Texas flood victims. Participants will pay a minimum $10 donation with all funds matched—benefiting Mercys Chefs, Texas Search and Rescue, and the Kerr County Flood Relief Fund.  KRIS 6 News
  • A group of five local volunteers has been beautifying Padre Island by installing flags, cleaning public areas, and working with local organizations to address issues via the My CC 311 app. They will soon have a local artist paint a mural at the Park Road 22 and Aquarius intersection — a project designed to welcome both visitors and residents.  KRIS 6 News

ACCIDENTS NEWS

  • A young boy died after being hit by a car while riding a skateboard in a Corpus Christi parking lot near Horne and Airport Road on Friday afternoon—local police report that the driver stayed at the scene with no charges filed. Construction began today on Huntwick Avenue—from Staples to H-E-B Plus on Saratoga—as local officials start a $950,000 rebuild aimed at boosting traffic safety with work expected to finish in November.  KRIS 6 News

EDUCATION NEWS

  • Corpus Christi Independent School District is reviewing a new cellphone policy that will ban devices during school hours to comply with Texas House Bill 1481. Officials said they will update families on any changes before school starts on August 11th—ensuring the district follows the new law.  KIII-TV

  • City officials say the latest modeling shows desalination will not harm bay marine life, but watchdog groups call for independent testing+ to verify the findings.  KIII-TV

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • Corpus Christi Parks and Recreation is teaming with Reliant's Beat the Heat program to open four senior centers as cooling centers from June 16 until September 30 to help residents beat the heat. The Greenwood Senior Center will host a free pickup on July 19 from 10 a.m. to 12 p.m.—neighbors can receive a game packet, a box fan, and snacks with a limit of one cooling device per person or two per vehicle.  KRIS 6 News
