ACCIDENTS NEWS
- ➤ A minor fire broke out in the kitchen of El Camino, a downtown Tex-Mex restaurant, on Friday night—no injuries occurred and the dining area was spared as management will assess the damage over the weekend with an update set for Monday. KIII-TV
- ➤ Corpus Christi Fire Department and Annaville crews battled a recycling plant fire and remained on scene for several hours to ensure the flames were fully out (preventing any chance of reignition). KIII-TV
GOVERNMENT NEWS
- ➤ Corpus Christi Fire Department firefighters trained for water rescues to be ready all year and boost beach safety, and Captain Greg Fuller said the training prepares crews for emergencies beyond the summer season. KIII-TV
- ➤ Corpus Christi officials say the new desalination plant will raise residential water bills to $11.38 in 2029, or $9.92 if another grant is received—averaging an extra $1.42 per month over the June 2024 forecast. The city will present the Guaranteed Maximum Price to council in December when 60 percent of the design is complete. KIII-TV
- ➤ Corpus Christi officials revealed that a new cost model for the seawater desalination project now estimates the Inner Harbor Water Treatment Campus at $997 million based on 10% design completion—that showing an increase from earlier estimates—and a total project cost of $1.189 billion. Residential ratepayers will face an average monthly increase of $11.38 starting in 2029 as the City Council prepares to review updated design work in December. Action 10 News
- ➤ TxDOT begins repaving and restriping I-37 northbound in Corpus Christi on Sunday night, closing all northbound lanes from 9 p.m. to 6 a.m. between Buddy Lawrence Drive and Nueces Bay Boulevard (drivers from downtown and US 181 southbound must use detours via Port Avenue and Nueces Bay Boulevard).
