  • After the Welder Fire destroyed her home four months ago, 10-year-old Evonne Moore is preparing to start fourth grade and join cheerleading when the new school year begins — her family now lives in temporary housing provided by the City of Sinton.  KRIS 6 News

ACCIDENTS NEWS

  • Corpus Christi fire crews investigated a gas leak after workers hit a 2 inch gas line after 3 p.m. Monday on the 1500 block of Brownlee Boulevard+ Booty Street; police closed nearby roads and evacuated people.  KRIS 6 News

CRIME NEWS

  • The Corpus Christi Police Department is asking for help locating 18-year-old Amy Huerta, who has not been heard from in about two weeks and is described as 5 feet 1 inch tall, weighing around 110 pounds and sporting a distinctive tattoo on her left upper arm; anyone with information should call 911 or the non emergency number 361 8862600.  KRIS 6 News

EDUCATION NEWS

  • KRIS Communications and the United Way of the Coastal Bend launched the 35th annual Operation SOS to supply over 22,000 students from 43 public school districts with basic school supplies from July 1 through July 31 — live coverage began Monday in Sinton as the drive continues.  KRIS 6 News
  • Nearly 3,000 agricultural teachers are gathering in Corpus Christi at the American Bank Center for a professional development conference to strengthen agricultural education as more than 303,000 students are enrolled in state programs. Workshops on certification, classroom management, and state updates are offered—this event runs through Friday.  KRIS 6 News

ENVIRONMENT NEWS

  • Researcher Jensen Smith from Harte Research Institute at Texas A&M University-Corpus Christi said sharks play a key role in keeping our marine ecosystem healthy—she works with local anglers to tag and study them for conservation. The institute will host Shark Week events including a Jaws-themed presentation at the Texas State Aquarium on Friday.  KRIS 6 News
  • Texas researchers have launched Fin Finder, a new app that lets the public track tagged sharks moving through the Gulf in near real-time. The Center for Sportfish Science and Conservation at Texas A&M-Corpus Christi partnered with American Fishing Tackle Company and the Coastal Conservation Association to gather key data on shark movements — tracking species such as Tigers, Scalloped Hammerheads, and Shortfin Makos.  KRIS 6 News
