- ➤ Corpus Christi International Airport will offer a nonstop Frontier Airlines flight to Denver starting this October. The flight leaves late Thursday and returns Sunday with a travel time of about two and a half hours, and it is partly funded by a $400,000 federal grant—with additional local revenue guarantees to meet the airline's financial needs. - ➤ Downtown Corpus Christi businesses Flanagan's/Graffiti's and Executive Surf Club have proposed major exterior renovations—with Flanagan's expanding into the former Bay Jewel Event Center and Executive Surf Club planning a remodel—including new signs, windows and landscaping funded partly through tax increment financing; both projects are set to be completed by July 2026 (the board approved incentive agreements on July 22). - ➤ The case against Joe David Padron—whose conviction was overturned due to false testimony after 19 years in prison—remains unresolved as prosecutors received a 60-day extension to investigate missing files and recanted witness statements before deciding on a retrial for the 2002 double murder. - ➤ Texas election officials used the revamped SAVE immigration database to verify voter citizenship and checked 1,657 records—300 returned errors—and 33 potential noncitizens were referred for further investigation. Critics say the system’s accuracy and data privacy remain a concern. The Texas Tribune
- ➤ Corpus Christi City Council approved tax incentives for a new entertainment complex that will bring nearly 200 jobs to the area. The Cinergy Entertainment complex near Rodd Field Road — South Padre Island Drive will receive up to $4.15 million in tax rebates over 15 years and will begin construction early next year.
