- ➤ Volunteers and community donors filled the gym at Miller High School Thursday packing over 1,700 clear backpacks with school supplies and food bags in preparation for the 19th annual LEAD First Back to School Health Fair. The event will take place Saturday, July 26 at 9 a.m.—nearly 4,000 families are expected to benefit from free rides provided by the Corpus Christi Regional Transportation Authority and a special Shoe Carnival voucher for the first 200 families. - ➤ Christian Brothers Automotive Corpus Christi held a backpack drive on July 24 and filled 100 backpacks with donated supplies for Zavala Elementary—backpacks for Pre-K and Kindergarten students will be available starting Monday, July 28. For every dollar donated, the company will offer $2 in repair discounts with a valid receipt. KRIS 6 News
- ➤ Corpus Christi’s Parks & Recreation Department installed nine new playgrounds in parks across the city from October 2024 to June 2025—each equipped with large shade structures and funded through the Park Development Fund and General Fund to help families enjoy extended play time. KRIS 6 News

- ➤ On Tuesday, Judge Susan Barclay denied 18-year-old Aaron Fuentes' request to lower his $1.1 million bond in connection with the fatal January shooting of 21-year-old Justin Camacho at Windrush Apartments on Kostoryz Road—state prosecutors stressed the charge of capital murder while the investigation continues with pending DNA tests. - ➤ London ISD is spending just under $800,000 to retrofit its intermediate, middle, and high schools with secure vestibules that add an extra layer of safety by requiring visitors to be buzzed in—installations will be completed in the next few weeks using state safety grants and bond money. - ➤ Del Mar College's Automotive Applied Technology Program received ASE accreditation—this certification shows the training meets national standards and that students can look forward to better job prospects with local partner Hicks Automotive Group already employing several graduates. KRIS 6 News
